Our bands are spilt open so they are easy to put on. And remember we offer applicators too! These applicators are extremely helpful keeping the amount of stress low while your birds go through the tagging process.
We too are Breeders, and we start Our Tagging process right BEFORE our birds are ready to start flying around the cage. Thus our babies are already tagged when they first leave the nest. This way we know exactly which clutch each of our birds belong to before they ever become to difficult to catch and tag.
Since we raise many types of Finches, and we also breed Canaries, these are the size bands that we acquired for our FeatherFeet Leg Bands line. That way we know our products 1st hand. We also have had many friends tell us that this size band fits their parakeets as well. So our bands have been well tested before we even decided to open FeatherFeet and sell these bands to the public. Afraid of Plastic bands because of the additives being put in plastics from China? Our bands are small enough for Green Singing Finches, Zebra Finches, Societies, Owl Finches, Star Finches, Nuns, etc. Yet they're big enough for our Canaries, Java Sparrows, Shaft Tails and Lady Gouldians. They're also easy to be seen, and with the soft plastic they can NOT harm your birds.
Some of the breeders we have dealt with have told us that they have their birds wearing a band on each leg. One to denote the clutch, and one to mark the sex of their birds. That way they don't have to pay the high prices for the leg bands that have numbers or strips of colors on them.
If you're paying to have your birds sexed, you'll want to tag them correctly. It's easier then having to remember which bird is which when they molt and change their markings on you. A problem we at FeatherFeet had before using the bands we are now offering!
